A Rainy Morning, a Beautiful Wedding, and the Beginning of Hicks Film Studio’s Film Add-On Packages

This past week, I had the honor of photographing my very first wedding — and it was extra special because it was my mother’s. The day started with rain, steady and persistent, but as if by divine timing, the skies cleared just in time for the ceremony.

It was a small, intimate gathering of fewer than thirty people. The kind of wedding where you can hear every laugh, see every happy tear, and feel how tightly knit everyone is. I was the photographer for the entire event, primarily capturing the day on digital, but I brought along a couple of film cameras as well.

And honestly? Some of my favorite images from the day came from those rolls of film.

There’s something about film that slows you down — it makes you notice details you might otherwise miss in the rush of a timeline. The texture of the clouds after the rain, the glow of candles on a dinner table, the way light hits a face during a quiet moment. Those images felt different. They felt alive.
