When I finally launched Hicks Film Studio, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Like many small business owners - especially one so niched like film scanning and developing - I hoped to help people. I wanted to reconnect folks with their memories through the beautiful pastime of analog photography. What I didn’t expect was how quickly it would touch my heart.
Scanning 35mm Film Negatives: More Than Just an Image
My very first customer sent me two 35mm color negatives to digitally scan. This is a common request for film scanning services—many people have old rolls of film tucked away in boxes or envelopes, waiting for the right time to bring them back to life.
After I scanned the negatives and shared the digital files with her, she responded with something that stopped me in my tracks: the photos were of her sister, who had passed away.
I was deeply moved. It was a powerful reminder of why I love film so much and why I wanted to start Hicks Film Studio. Film holds memories that are irreplaceable. Sometimes, it holds pieces of our lives that we didn’t even realize we still had. It's nostalgic, and the practice of analog photography I believe keeps us connected to tradition and history.
Preserving Memories Through Film
Moments like this are why I love working with film. Whether it's developing 35mm film, scanning old negatives, or simply helping someone rediscover a forgotten memory, it’s about more than just the image. It’s about connection. Emotion. Legacy.
At Hicks Film Studio, I treat every roll of film with care because I know that every frame might mean the world to someone.
Looking to Scan Old Film?
If you have undeveloped film or old negatives you’d love to bring back to life, I’d be honored to help. Whether it’s a dusty box of memories from the attic or a single roll of film you found in a drawer, every image deserves a second chance.
Hicks Film Studio offers professional film scanning and developing services with a personal touch—because your memories matter, and we can keep film – Alive!
